What is JLPT?

About JLPT

The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) has been offered by the Japan Foundation and Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (formerly Association of International Education, Japan) since 1984 as a reliable means of evaluating and certifying the Japanese proficiency of non-native speakers. The objective of JLPT is to hold annual exams worldwide to evaluate and certify proficiency in Japanese of non-native speakers. The test is held twice a year in Japan and selected countries (on the first Sunday of July and December), and once a year in other regions (on the first Sunday of December).

The test is made up of diffrent sections:

  1. Vocabulary
  2. Grammar and Reading
  3. Listening

Advantages of JLPT

JLPT certificates offer various advantages, ranging from recognition as academic credit and graduation certification at schools to preferential treatment at companies and acknowledgement of qualification in society. By itself, it offers an additional career advantage merit. JLPT certificates do not expire or become invalid over time HOWEVER companies and educational institutions that refer to test results sometimes set a time limit on the certificate.

  • Earn points for preferential treatment for immigration to Japan
  • It is one of requirements to take Japan's national exams for medical practitioners
  • It is one of requirements to take Japan's prefectural exams for assistant nurses
  • A test subject is waved on accreditation exam for completion of junior high school level education in Japan
  • One of requirements for the nurse/caregiver candidates under the EPA (Economic Partnership Agreement)

JLPT Exam Levels & Fees (update: 2022)

  1. N1 - Measure the level of understanding of advance - RM180.00
  2. N2 - Measure the level of understanding of advance - RM180.00
  3. N3 - Bridging level between N1/N2 and N4/N5 - RM180.00
  4. N4 - Measure the level of understanding of basic Japanese - RM140.00
  5. N5 - Measure the level of understanding of basic Japanese - RM140.00

Test Dates Info

  1. JLPT (JUL) : FIRST SUNDAY, JULY (Registrations is normally in March to April)
  2. JLPT (DEC) : FIRST SUNDAY, DECEMBER (Registrations is normally in July to August)

Registration Info

  • We can assist with registrations OR
  • It's possible to register and pay online : JLSM website
  • Please try not to use HOTMAIL or OUTLOOK emails to register at JLSM.
  • In Sabah, it is held once a year only in December.
  • It's possible to register for 2 types of levels of exams but risky as their schedule may clash.

Registration for JLPT

REGISTRATION FOR JLPT EXAMS ARE OFFCIALLY MANAGED BY JLSM. If you are interested to take the JLPT exams, you may contact us for advice. Anybody with any age can try the exam. There are several levels of JLPT exams which you can learn about. Registrations can also be done online however if you are new or unsure, you are free to contact JCTIC for more information.

JLPT Preparation Classes

This course is intended to assist anyone who is preparing to face the JLPT exams. In Sabah, JLPT exams are held at UMS (University Malaysia Sabah) once a year only. Time, Schedules & Syllabuses are normally customized to suit this course. Please check our News and Announcement page for 'JLPT Preparation' classes updates.
